SOUTH AFRICA: Improving equipment authorization and type approval processes

ICASA (Independent Communications Authority of South Africa) recently published a project on compliance assessment of telecommunications equipment in SOUTH AFRICA.

This project is part of the compliance assessment framework for the “equipment approval” document published on December 13, 2018, in which the public should submit comments. The regulator expects to have the participation of the approval stakeholders on the proposed document until January 30, 2019. The regulator’s vision is to have a dynamic approval-type sector that adapts to changes in information and communication technologies. Indeed, conformity assessment is a means of proving that telecommunications equipment and systems meet the requirements defined in the regulation. According to DR. Keabetswe Modimoeng, ICASA Councilor pointed out that regulators must keep pace with new technologies. It should be noted that test reports prepared by test laboratories are important information to support both certification and supplier declaration of compliance. This innovation is an unlimited advantage for the telecommunications universe in South Africa.  Given the different policies for obtaining a better sector of the approval type initiated by ICASA, our team remains available to assist you.
