The Nigerian regulator (NCC) is dealing with every aspect of counterfeiting in the telecommunications market, which has become a real threat to the sector. For this reason, it organized a forum on financial fraud using telecoms platforms in Abuja on January 29. The observation is clear: several telecom platforms are used illegally to commit financial fraud. On that basis, the regulator has been in discussions with telecommunications operators to counter this phenomenon, which is holding the Nigerian telecommunications sector back.

At the opening of the forum, the Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, reassured the participants that a series of security measures are being taken in collaboration with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the Nigerian Force Police (NFP) and other approved anti-bank fraud companies. Today, the entire telecommunications sector is under threat. To avoid fraud, importers and vendors are urged to have compliant equipment after they are approved.
