NIGERIA : NCC COMMITS TO Fight AGAINST COUNTERFEIT TELEPHONES

NIG-MOBIL

National Communications Commission (NCC) is committed to its market surveillance efforts
NCC has recently noted that the Nigerian telecommunications market is overwhelmed by unapproved mobile phones, which is a disincentive to the telecommunications sector and the country›s economy. Given this situation, which is holding the sector back, the regulator, in collaboration with the Office of National Security Adviser (ONSA) and government agencies, has just set up committees to counter this phenomenon. Indeed, two committees have been set up, namely the Project Steering Committee (PCS) and the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), which will work together to set up Mobile Devices Management Systems (DMS), a public-private partnership project whose role will consist in counteracting the proliferation of counterfeit mobile communications devices and any other illegal means in the telecommunications sector. At the opening of the meeting on February 20 in Abuja, the Executive Vice Chairman of NCC, Umar Garba Danbatta explained that this project is part of the organization›s mission to approve telecommunications equipment and ensure that they meet the requirements of the standards. It should be noted that NCC has regularly carried out market awareness and monitoring activities since its creation. However, all operators in the certification sector are required to have telecommunications equipment approved in Nigeria. To do this, our team remains available to help you obtain your approval certificates. Please, contact us at
