Electronic communication equipment type approval

In his message delivered on January ,15  2019, the Managing Director of the Malawi Regulatory Authority (MACRA) informed the public, including equipment importers, manufacturers, distributors and vendors of electronic communications equipment, that any electronic communications equipment must be approved before being used or imported into the country. This provision aims at making the professional sector comply with equipment that complies with the regulations. According to the agency’s first Manager Godfrey Itaye , several non-approved equipment is in circulation all over the territory, which results in a deterioration in the approval environment. By approving the equipment, this promotes:
•  Prevention of interference in public communication networks
•  interoperability of customer equipment with telecommunications networks and interconnection between networks;
•  conformity to local and international standards;
•  addressing public health and safety concerns regarding emissions especially from telecommunication masts;
•  Strengthening post-market surveillance activities on unapproved devices and
facilitating the availability of quality devices to the public
As a reminder, whoever does not comply with this provision is liable to penalty.
