Egypt: Wlan band changes and removal of bandwidth restrictions

The National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) in Egypt has confirmed that the bandwidth restriction has been removed for indoor Wireless LAN frequencies. Consequently, WLAN 802.11ac devices can now be approved and used in Egypt. No further action is needed for already approved products. However, it is highly recommended to inform product manufacturers and end users of the latest WLAN regulation.

The frequency band 5.725 – 5.470 GHz is not allowed (no change from previous regulations)
• The frequency band 5.850 – 5.725 GHz is for outdoor use only and no longer allowed for indoor operation (previous regulations had authorized this band for indoor unlicensed use) Use of this band is now licensed and end user requires approval/license from the NTRA

• It is recommended that manufacturers update device firmware to disable this band (5.850 – 5.725 GHz) for unlicensed users. Firmware update can also allow the use of higher bandwidth and 11ac modes.
