NIGERIA: NCC HOLDS ROUNDTABLE INTERACTION WITH ACADEMIA, INDUSTRY AND OTHER STAKEHOLDERS

The Nigerian regulator (NCC) recently organized a roundtable with universities and telecommunications companies at MINNA in the northern center of the country. The meeting was held on January 23-24 ,2019. The purpose was to establish a collaboration between the Regulator and telecommunications operators for a successful development of this sector in Nigeria. Several universities and companies have come massively to immerse themselves in the realities of the telecommunications sector. Engineer Austin Nwaulune, Spectrum Director Administration of the NCC, representing Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta, Executive Vice Chairman, pointed out that the NCC s role is to achieve an excellent regulation that promotes Nigeria s economic and social development. In addition, he pointed out that this noble ambition would not be achieved without the participation of universities and operators, given the acceleration of technological innovations, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IOT), Smart cities, 5th generation network (5G), both constraining due to misuse. The meeting is not the first; it should be recalled that the Regulator has undertaken several awareness-raising activities to obtain a better sector in Nigeria. Today, given the many actions carried out by the NCC, all operators in the sector, including equipment vendors, importers and manufacturers, are invited to use telecommunications equipment approved by the regulator.
